Military Support Group to open Christmas Market festivities
The Carlinville Christmas Market has invited the Macoupin County Military Support Group to cut the ceremonial ribbon that officially opens the festival on Friday, December 7. Representatives of the Group, along with other local dignitaries, will be present to acknowledge our military heroes and to kick off the 23rd annual Christmas Market on the historic town square.
“This is a minor but thoroughly justifiable break with tradition,” said Char Genta, who sits on the Christmas Market board and is an active member of the Military Support Group. “In the past, we’ve selected one person or a couple be our honorary chair for the festival. This year, we’ve selected an organization and, in a way, thousands of men and women who have served us in the military.” Christine Goldstein is the President of the group and will speak at the ribbon cutting.
The Group also will be featured on the cover of this year’s Christmas Market Guide, a handy publication that tells visitors the who, what, when, and where of the 2012 festival. The Guide will be included in the Enquirer-Democrat the week after Thanksgiving. It will also be available at the Chamber of Commerce office and at the entrances to the Christmas Market arts and crafts tents.
